Warm-up activities: Showing the students a picture of
a family member (father for examples). The students say who is in the
picture.
The teacher asks them to give other family related words that they
have already learnt (Vocabulary Consolidation). The teacher shows
the students two pictures: one of a father and the other of a son and he
writes down a short dialogue in which the son asks for permission from his
father:
Son:
Father! Can I play football with my friends? Father: Yes, you can. Son: Can I play karate? Father: No, you can’t. The
teacher reads out the dialogue for the class to model pronunciation while the
students listen carefully. The
students take turns reading the dialogue (Controlled practice/activity).
Then,
the students are asked to use the words “mother” and “daughter” instead of
“father” and “son” to write down a short dialogue to ask for and grant/decline
permission (Checking Comprehension). The students read out/act out their short
dialogues in front of the whole class. The teacher presents a list of activities
which the students can make use of to ask for permission (pair work):
Again, the students take turns role
playing their dialogues on the board. They are asked to copy down a dialogue
model into their lesson copy-book (for future review). As a free practice/activity, the
students are asked to produce dialogues and sentences of their own using
words and expression of their own choice. Closing up activities: The teacher invites the students to mime
the way s/he would ask her /his parents for permission to do something. The teacher also reminds the class that the
next session/class will be on Unit 6 (House) and thus are asked to bring some
pictures of the parts of the house if possible.
